Bio

Psalmist Lisa Winn comes from a large singing and preaching family. She is a PK and native of Baltimore, MD.  She is a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

She believes that everyone possesses kingdom gifts and that God has called us not only to the local assembly but also to the nations. She has traveled internationally to several different countries repeatedly, singing and ministering on the mission fields and directing mass choirs: Italy, Brazil, England, France, and Switzerland.

She has opened for several different artists (Richard Smallwood, John P. Kee, Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child, Donnie McClurkin, India Arie, Twinkie Clark and Shirley Caesar to name a few) and worked with a variety of gospel choirs, most recently on, You Alone, the 2014 Arkansas Mass Gospel Choir recording which will air on the Bobby Jones Gospel Show in the fall.

She recorded her first CD with Stellar Award nominee, Ben Tankard and also directed a 125 voice college choir in the reprise of Nikki Giovanni’s, “Truth is On Its Way.”  Lisa had the more recent honor to sing for Author Toni Morrison and the late Maya Angelou at VA Tech in October 2012 as Dr. Niki Giovanni and Dr. Joanne Gabbin paid tribute to both renowned writers and poets.

“The God of My All” can be found on the Cedar Street Baptist Church of God Indeed project produced by James Johnson and the Voices of Cedar Street in Richmond, VA.

Lisa has had a vast musical career that extends beyond the church. She has a love for Negro spirituals and was the soloist for Monticello and the Hemmings Family Reunion (Charlottesville, VA), the Frederick Douglass-Isaac Myer Maritime Park and Museum (Baltimore, MD), the White House Ellipse & Lincoln Memorial Juneteenth Celebrations (Washington, DC), the gospel stages for AFRAMFEST (Norfolk, VA) and the Black Family Reunion in Washington, DC. She also has a love of Jazz and has performed at the Hippodrome (Richmond, VA) and at many Jazz Brunches and Cabarets.

Lisa is also a proud Silver Star member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and sings at many AKA national conventions, including the Centennial Celebration in 2008 before a crowd of 24,000 in Washington, DC.

She is excited about her October 2014 Release of “the Light” also produced by James Johnson and Edward’s Boy Music Group.  “All of the music is original. I wrote most of the songs and James Johnson and I co-wrote the others.  The title track is a song that I wrote about my father’s passing, Dr. A. A. Winn, and what I believe happens to each believer when we pass from this earthly vessel and into His Presence, the Light.”
