YOU CAN L.I.V.E. WITH ASTHMA!
L.I.V.E. is an acronym for Lead, Inspire, [be] Victorious, & Empower. Niasia's goal is to educate other young people about asthma and the resources available to help them better control their condition. She has formed partnerships with the Virginia Asthma Coalition and the American Lung Association in hopes of spreading the word about Asthma Awareness. On May 25th, 2012, Niasia made a guest appearance on WTVR-CBS 6 Virginia This Morning, Channel 6, a local talk show in Richmond, VA. She spoke about Asthma Awareness and shared resources on the many different ways to control asthma and continue a healthy and active lifestyle. Since then, Niasia has been speaking to groups around the city about asthma and the importance of living an active lifestyle. Some of her community events include: participation with the EveryBODY Move demonstration at Richmond Mayor Dwight Jones’ Get Healthy, Stay Healthy Expo, hosting a tea party at Blackwell Elementary School for top readers, cheering on runners in the Autism 5K and at the Special Olympics, speaking to over 200 children at the SPBC's Annual Back to School Blast event, and even started a Royal Reading Club at her church where she distributed 300 to encourage summer reading!
“Lead, Inspire, [be] Victorious, & Empower,” is Niasia Ellis’ personal philosophy. She is committed to encouraging children and young adults to L.I.V.E. and safely enjoy sports and other activities and achieve all of their goals, in spite of their condition. Niasia’s story is living proof that, with proper treatment andaccess to control and preventative medicines, asthmatics can not only L.I.V.E. but have a LIFE that includes having fun and safely enjoying activities!
